Roots in the Prairie Dust
This is a "must read" book. Maxine wrote this book at age 83 so that the many memories she has of those depression years would not be forever lost. Her story is one that will take you back to that time and see life through the eyes of a child. Maxine was born in Montana and takes pride in being a Montanan. Maxine's daughter, MeriEsther says of her mom "She grew up in Eastern Montana, attended college in Have, Montana, and taught in country schools for many years. She then married William Melton and became a content and hard working farm wife. On their farm, south of Denton, Montana, they raised six children, three boys and three girls, retiring off the farm in 1989. Mom has always had a fascination for words, but didn't start writing until later in life. Poetry and stories started pouring out of her at that point." to read more of what MeriEsther said about her mom, as well as finding about Maxine's memories of her life, be sure to get this book and enjoy seeing Montana life through Maxine's eyes.
